Matt is an associate in our Miami office and handles large loss bodily injury cases and general commercial litigation. A native of the South Carolina low country, Matt attended the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA on a football scholarship and earned his B.A. in 2003, then returned home and earned his J.D. from the Charleston School of Law in Charleston, SC. He was admitted to the S.C. Bar in 2009. He began his career working for a boutique firm along coastal South Carolina’s “Grand Strand”, where he litigated personal injury cases for plaintiffs, general civil litigation matters for defendants, and also represented hospitals in collections matters. He gained valuable trial experience handling personal injury, contracts disputes, bank litigation, and collections litigation for his clients. Simultaneously, he pursued his LL.M. in Real Estate from Univ. of Miami School of Law in light of his business background, which includes his tenure as a top-producing real estate professional for Century 21 and assisting with his family’s business, one of the most prolific real estate developers in South Carolina. Through his LL.M. experience, he fell in love with Miami, and in 2018 became licensed in Florida and joined a civil defense firm in Miami where he was assigned large loss bodily-injury cases. Matt is also admitted to the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida’s federal courts.
As a lover of the performing arts, and one-time child actor in LA and NYC, Matt enjoys attending theater and live comedy shows in his spare time, and even performs improv-comedy here in Miami. He also enjoys travel, attending music and art festivals, fitness, and dance. He has danced to raise money for multiple charities, including the samba and the shag. Matt resides in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood where he is a Member of the First Presbyterian Church of Miami and he is actively involved with his community.
